Awards

Monoma convention centre The PNIRS has typically provided up to 25 travel awards to Trainee Members to help defray the costs of the meeting expenses. These Scholar Awardees participate in a special mentoring program on the first night of the meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Fostering the education and success of the next generation of researchers is a key objective of the PNIRS and a major aim of each meeting.

Selection of the Scholar Awardees is made on the basis of the submitted abstract and the applicant's promise for a career in interdisciplinary research related to the basic science and translational aspects of PNI, neuroimmunology, and behavioral medicine.

This year, in addition to the mentoring session with Senior Faculty, there will also be a Junior Faculty/Trainee workshop focused on career development with a reception on Friday night, May 30. As always, there is also the outstanding Educational Short course, which will take place from 3:00-6:00 on Wednesday, May 28. These training and mentoring opportunities are included with the registration fee, which covers most breakfasts and lunches too.

The grant that provides the funding for the travel awards is under review at this time. We should know by December whether it has been renewed, and if the travel subsidies will be available. But even those trainees who do not receive an award get to participate in all aspects of the meeting, including the special trainee reception on Friday night. The PNIRS is also well known, of course, for having one of the best after-banquet dances of any scientific society. We hope you will join us for all of these educational and social activities.
